What do I have to do to prepare the site for turf?
Site preparation can be the most important step to long lasting, water use efficient and pleasing to look at lawn.
- Remove weeds, lumps, rocks and debris so that roots of the turf will be in contact with the soil.
- Shape site for drainage.
- Remove sticks and stones.
- If your soil needs improving talk to your local landscape supplier about soil, nutrients and gypsum.
- New soil, or existing soil ideally should be worked to 100mm.
- Install an irrigation system. This has proven to be more water efficient than hand held hosing.
- Rake soil level. Any lumps will be hit by mowing later.
- Screed soil smooth.
- Order turf.
- Remember to have enough water for new turf because it is a living product.
