General characteristics of kikuyu.

  • Creeping perennial grass that has rhizomes growing below the ground and stolons above the ground.
  • Dark green grass that grows vigorously.
  • High wearability especially when in full sun and will grow in shade.
  • Quick to establish and quick to recuperate.
  • Mowing- best kept 30-40mm throughout the year with no more than 30-40% of leaf removed in any one mow. Regular rotary mower is very suitable.
  • Apply fertilizer when grass begins to loss colour and vigour. Reduced growth and colour indicates lack of nutrition and could lead to weeds becoming established.
